Bella's Helles

Munich Helles

5.5%

ABV

17

IBU

Our first lager on draft! A crisp, smooth, lager with a malt-forward profile from the pilsner malt. We let it lager for 6 weeks in the fermenters before putting it on draft. This inviting, refreshing beer is perfect for a hot, Charleston summer day and is named after our late husky, Bella.

Fun Fact:

Lager yeast is known as a 'bottom-fermentation' yeast and enjoys fermenting at lower temperatures for longer periods of time than an ale yeast.

Berried at Sea

Raspberry Kettle Sour

5.0%

ABV

6

IBU

We split our first kettle sour and added raspberry puree to this half to create a sweet and sour, well balanced beer. At just 5% ABV, you'll find this beer quite refreshing on a hot summer day.

Fun Fact:

A raspberry is made up of many tiny bead-like fruits called “drupelets” clustered around a center core.

Boone Hall Berry Bomb

Strawberry Kettle Sour

5.0%

ABV

6

IBU

Our first kettle sour, soured with lactobacillus. We partnered with Boone Hall Farms in Mount Pleasant and added 180lb of fresh strawberries. At just 5% ABV and with the right balance of sour and strawberries, you'll find this beer quite refreshing on a hot summer day.

Fun Fact:

Boone Hall Farm dedicates ~13 acres each spring for their 150,000 strawberry plants to produce over 260,000 lb of strawberries. Every strawberry on the farm is picked by hand.

Butter Go Nuts

Peanut Butter Porter on Nitro

7.1%

ABV

68

IBU

Our peanut butter porter is full of peanut butter powder and cocoa nibs added during the boil and in secondary to give it a nice resemblance to a Reese Cup. If you like a punch of peanut butter to the nose, we recommend getting the beer served with regular beer gas. If you like your PB creamy, try it on nitro!

Fun Fact:

Archibutyrophobia (pronounced A'-ra-kid-bu-ti-ro-pho-bi-a) is the fear of getting peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth.

Cenotes

Mexican Lager

6.4%

ABV

20

IBU

Smooth and easy to drink on a hot summer day. The sweetness from the flaked corn and a heavy dose of Vienna will pull through in our version of a Mexican lager but is balanced by the Zeus and Motueka hops, which gives a little citrus punch. The southern German lager yeast lets this one finish out clean and crisp. This beer will pair nicely with guacamole, tacos, or your personal favorite Mexican dish.

Fun Fact:

Cenotes are natural pits, or sinkholes, resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. The Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico is home to thousands of cenotes.

Charming Devil

Golden Strong Ale

9.0%

ABV

30

IBU

Watch out! The charming devil will get you. This Golden Strong Ale doesn't drink like a 9% but as a dry, smooth, golden ale. We added 75 lb sugar during the boil and let it ferment for a month to until it got to exactly where we wanted it.

Fun Fact:

Devil in Dutch is "Duval". Many breweries will incorporate 'devil' into the name of their Golden Strong Ales as a nod to Moortgat Brewery's Duval beer. Duval is considered by many as the definitive version of the Belgian Strong Pale Ale style.

Drift Dive

Citra IPA

5.8%

ABV

63

IBU

A similar recipe we brewed for our wedding beer, this Citra IPA uses Nugget, Mosaic and, of course, Citra hops! A clean, crisp, West Coast IPA if that’s what you’re craving.

Fun Fact:

Drift diving is a type of scuba diving where the diver is transported by the water movement caused by the tide, an ocean current or in a river.

Duke It Out

IPA

7.3%

ABV

67

IBU

A solid IPA brewed with 100% Centennial hops. This was a beer we did early on in our homebrewing days and we are excited to debut it on the professional level.

Fun Fact:

Centennial Hops was first created in 1974 and is sometimes referred to as a Super Cascade

Manta Cyclone

Juicy IPA

5.6%

ABV

43

IBU

A juicy IPA using Mosaic, Amarillo, and Zeus hops. Aroma from the Mosaic and Amarillo hops will give off a dank scent. The Zeus hops add a bit of bitterness that balances out the juice character. Sometimes it's hazy, sometimes it's not, but it always tastes delicious!

Fun Fact:

In some parts of the world you can find manta rays cyclone feeding, where 50 or more mantas will create a chain and then spin into a vortex while feeding on plankton.

Ocean Gem

Juicy IPA

6.3%

ABV

49

IBU

We took the term Juicy IPA pretty literal with this beer by using Idaho Gem hops. Combined with the Mosaic hops, you'll notice fruit candy (like Juicy Fruit), citric grapefruit, and some mango on the nose and in the taste. We used flaked barley and oats to give the beer the right mouthfeel and added 55lb of wheat malt to make it hazy. Fermented out with London Fog yeast, it all comes together to make a delicious gem of a beer.

Fun Fact:

The South Carolina state gemstone is Amethyst. The word amethyst derives from Ancient Greek and means "not intoxicated." The ancient Greeks believed that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness and wore amethyst and carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication.

Parrotfish

Juicy Pale Ale

5.1%

ABV

46

IBU

Just like a Parrotfish loves grazing on the coral reef, you're going to love grazing on this sessionable, juicy pale ale. Cashmere and Amarillo hops create the juiciness of this beer and cut through any bitterness left behind from the Zeus hops. Coming in at ~5%, it's an easy drinking beer.

Fun Fact:

After a Parrotfish digests the edible portions from the rock, it excretes it as sand, helping create small islands and the sandy beaches. The humphead parrotfish can produce 90 kg (200 lb) of sand each year.

Pelican Plunge

Cascade Pale Ale

5.6%

ABV

36

IBU

You'll chase after this beer with the same intensity a pelican will plunge into the water to get its next meal. Our Pelican Plunge Pale Ale was brewed with Cascade, Zeus, and Centennial hops and then dry hopped with more Cascade.

Fun Fact:

The brown pelican will plunge-dive head-first into the water for its prey, from a height as great as 10–20 m (33–66 ft).

Penny for the Ferryman

Belgian Dark Strong

8.0%

ABV

28

IBU

A wintery version of our Charming Devil. This lightly bittered beer will warm your heart with its caramel, raisin, and fruity aroma and flavor. You may be wondering where the beautiful color of the beer comes from. We like to credit the dark candied syrup incorporated into the boil. It's not too sweet though! The Belgian Strong Ale yeast finishes it drier than you might expect. Like the Charming Devil, this one is more dangerous than it tastes.

Fun Fact:

According to Greek and Roman literary sources, a low-denomination coin would be placed in or on the deceased's mouth at burial as a toll to the ferryman who transported souls across the river that divided the world of the living from the world of the dead.

Sheep for a Wheat

Belgian Wheat

5.1%

ABV

15

IBU

The Belgian yeast used for this beer is intense. That's why we love it. We balance out the flavors brought on with the yeast with some coriander seed and orange peel for a well-balanced Belgian Wheat Ale.

Fun Fact:

Even though this beer style originated from Belgian, Settlers of Catan really originated from Germany.

Shelly Beach

Blonde Ale

5.4%

ABV

18

IBU

Our first open water dive as certified scuba divers was at Shelly Beach in Sydney, Australia. It seemed only fitting to name the first beer we put on tap at Indigo Reef after that first dive. Just like our shore dive at Shelly Beach got us hooked on scuba diving, we think this blonde ale will get you hooked on us. The Shelly Beach Blonde Ale is easy to drink making it the perfect beer for a hot day or as a gateway into craft beer if you're new to the scene.

Fun Fact:

Shelly beach is one of only 2 west facing ocean beaches on the east coast of Australia.

Sigmund's Serenity

Voss Kveik Saison

5.8%

ABV

22

IBU

A dry saison brewed with Voss Kveik, a special Norwegian yeast that ferments at much higher temperatures (70-100 degrees) than other yeast. We let this free rise to 86 degrees during fermentation to bring out the orange and citrus flavors you taste - that’s all from the yeast!

Fun Fact:

This beer is named after the yeast sample’s owner from which it originated, Sigmund Gjernes

Surface Interval

Czech Pilsner

6.6%

ABV

34

IBU

Surface Interval is a Czech Pilsner that uses Southern German Lager yeast and 100% Czech Saaz hops. The hops will give the beer a slight spicy character, which is a nice complement to the clean finishing yeast. Just like a diver's surface interval between dives, this beer is relaxing, chill, and rejuvenating.

Fun Fact:

A surface interval is the time a diver spends at the surface in between dives. The time allows nitrogen accumulated during the dive to be released from the body and will reduce the risk of decompression sickness, or "the bends".

Tropical Storm

Tropical Stout

6.5%

ABV

45

IBU

The perfect combination of tropical, chocolate, and roasted flavors in a single glass. We used Warrior hops for bittering but the Midnight wheat balances it out nicely. The Citra and Amarillo hops used during the whirlpool combined with Voss Kveik yeast gives this beer a little touch of tropical paradise in a stout form.

Fun Fact:

According to the National Weather Service, a tropical storm is a tropical cyclone that has maximum sustained surface winds ranging from 39-73 mph (34 to 63 knots). The cyclone doesn't reach hurricane status until winds reach 74 mph/64 knots or greater.

Uncle Ducky's Revenge

Belgian IPA

7.9%

ABV

56

IBU

Fermented with a Belgian Strong Ale yeast, this Belgian IPA doesn't taste as strong as it is. The deliciousness of Zeus, Cascade, and Mosaic hops balance out the powerful flavors of the yeast.

Fun Fact:

Belgian IPAs originated as American and Double IPAs were taking off in Belgium. Brewers in Belgium decided they wanted to put their own spin on the IPA. Thus, the Belgian IPA was born.

Wooden Walkway

Belgian Saison

5.9%

ABV

24

IBU

Wooden Walkway will take your taste buds on a journey while you enjoy this Belgian Saison. You'll start with warm, biscutty flavors from the Vienna malt. Next, the Belgian yeast will throw in some cracked pepper to spice things up but will be balanced by citrus and tropical fruit from the Cashmere hops used during dry hopping. The journey will end with a dry finish. Enjoy!

Fun Fact:

Saison is French for "season". The style originated as a pale ale brewed during the cooler months and stored for drinking in the summer months when the seasonal workers ("saisonniers") returned.
